Richard L. "Dick" Schweitzer
(1917 - 2008)

DEFIANCE,OHIO - Richard L. "Dick" Schweitzer, 90, of Defiance, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at his home.
Born March 12, 1917, at Defiance, to Bertha (Nye) and Frank Schweitzer, he married Kathryn Fahrer on Feb. 14, 1942, and she survives.
He had served in the U.S. Army as a technical sergeant during World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
Employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years, he retired as an assistant post master in 1976. From 1976-1989 he was a sales representative at the Hubbard Company until his second retirement in 1989.
For the past 16 years, he had devoted most of his free time as a volunteer for the athletic departments at Defiance High School, Toledo Central Catholic and Toledo St. Francis High School. He was awarded the Defiance High School Pride of the Bulldogs award in 2007.
He was a life member of VFW Post No. 3360, and member of the Auglaize Country Club and Defiance High School Boosters.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Terri (and husband, Bruce) Bishop of Greensburg, Pa., Patti (Tom) Taylor of Fairview, Pa., and Laurie (Steven) Saum of Toledo; a son, Tom (and wife, Beth) Schweitzer of Bryan; a brother, Robert (Shirley) Schweitzer of Defiance; a sister, Helen Rauch of Clearwater, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela; three brothers, Francis, Norbert and Paul; and a sister, Agatha Schweitzer.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8 p.m. in the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in the St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance with Father Tim Kummerer to officiate.
Memorials may be made to Defiance High school Boosters or St. Mary's Catholic Church.
