WWI vet died.
Louis de Cazenave, one of the last French "poilus" WWI vet (1914-18), died at the age of 110 ans
Born 16 octobre 1897, Louis de Cazenave was the oldest surviving French WWI vet. He fought from 1916 in the 5th Senegalese bataillon . in 1919, after the war he became a railroad worker.
He will have a nationwide funeral.
The last French WWI survivor is Lazare Ponticelli, born 7 décembre 1897.

Is this the French form of Lazarus, Skip? If so, it is quite appropriate, it seems.

It sure is and it is very appropriate, thank you for making me think of it. Lazare is quite famous in France. It's the name of one of the main stations in Paris.
