Harold P. "Shorty" Starr
(1918 - 2008)

MONTPELIER,OHIO - Harold P. "Shorty" Starr, 89, of Montpelier, died Thursday morning, Jan. 17, 2008, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Bryan, following a brief illness.
Born near Montpelier on Sept. 15, 1918, to Murrel Z. (Brubaker) and Pierson F. Starr, he married Marcielle M. Dick on March 17, 1945, and she survives.
A 1936 graduate of Montpelier High School, he was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served as a B-29 tailgunner.
Retired in 1977, as superintendent of utilities of the Village of Montpelier, where he had been employed for most of his adult life, he was also employed as a survey assistant with surveyor Don Olmstead.
He was a member of Montpelier American Legion Post No. 109.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gary J. Starr of Montpelier; and a special friend, Linda Keesbury of Montpelier.
He was preceded in death by a son, Lee W. Starr of Feb. 15, 2000; his parents; and two brothers, Lyle and Weldon Starr.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Ron Baker to officiate. Burial with military graveside rites by the Montpelier veterans organizations will be in Riverside Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
