James L. Beardsley
(1928 - 2008)

SHERWOOD - James L. Beardsley, 79, of Sherwood,Ohio died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at his residence.
Born Sept. 8, 1928, at Defiance, to Ethel (Runnion) and LeRoy Beardsley, he married Edna Vogelsong on Nov. 13, 1952, and she survives.
A U.S. Air Force staff sergeant during World War II and the Korean War, he received his high school diploma with the help of the U.S. government ruling for the veterans who served during World War II.
He worked at the Defiance Post Office for 35 years, retiring in 1985.
A life member of the VFW No. 3360, he was a former Scoutmaster, past post commander and life member of DAV and a member and past president of Local National Letter Carriers.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Diane (and husband, Ronald) Bierly of Defiance and Edna (Eric) Dix of Sherwood; five sons, James L. Bearsley Jr. of Denver, Colo., Steven Beardsley, Tony Beardsley, both of Sherwood, Chris Beardsley and Rick Beardsley, both of Defiance; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter; two sisters, Ruth Coffman and Martha Beardsley; and six brothers, Earl, Richard, Frank, Ralph, Livingston and Robert Beardsley.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Don Harris to officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, with graveside services by VFW No. 3360.
Memorials may be made to the House of Prayer of Montpelier or Hospital Hospice-CHWC.
