Auschwitz survivor dies
Mr Leon Greenman, an Englishman who survived the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp, died on 6th March 2008 aged 97.
A few years ago I had the pleasure and honour of meeting this remarkable man when he gave a talk at a local school. Most of the audience were close to tears as he told of his arrival at the camp and being separated from his wife and son as they were led away to the gas chambers. He later went on to describe some of the horrors that he witnessed while at Auscwitz-Birkenau, including the random murders of prisoners after an attempted escape.
The latter part of his life was spent educating people of the Nazi attrocities to ensure that it never happens again.
R.I.P. Mr Greenman.
