(1924 - 2008)


ANGOLA, IND. - Philip E. Michael, 83, of Fremont, Ind., died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Northern Lakes Nursing Center in Angola, Ind.
Born July 3, 1924, to Kathryn Louise (Taylor) and Paul E. Michael, he married Pat (Smart) in 1947, and she survives.
He was a second generation farmer on the Michael Family Hoosier Centennial Farm, and also was a retired mail carrier.
A 1944 Fremont High School graduate, he was a lifelong member Fremont Methodist Church and a member of the Shepherd Fellowship Group.
He was a World War II Army veteran and a 60-year member and past commander of Fremont American Legion Cassel Post 257.
In addition, he was a former board member of Steuben County REMC, a former two-term Steuben County commissioner, and a former Fremont Advisory Board member.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter Cheryl Michael of Red Oak, Texas; sons, Dennis Michael of Fremont, Gary (and wife Rose) Michael of Fremont and Neil (Trudy) Michael of Merrimac, Wis.; several brothers- and sisters-in-law; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Willard "Bud" Michael.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Keith Olson officiating, and burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Fremont.
Military committal services will be conducted by members of Fremont American Legion.
Memorials may be made to Fremont Methodist Church or Fremont American Legion Cassel Post 257.
