George Amos Easterday
(1916 - 2008)

SEBRING, Fla. - George Amos Easterday, 91, of Sebring died Monday, March 31, 2008.
Born June 2, 1916, at Brewster, Minn., he and his wife, Jean, moved to Sebring in 1973 from Bryan, Ohio.
Having served in the U.S. Army during World War II, he was awarded the Purple Heart in addition to the American Air Force, American Defense, African and European Campaign medals. He also earned the Good Conduct Medal for honor, fidelity and efficiency. He served from June 1941 to July 1945 and drove a tank with the 751st Tank Battalion.
He fought in battles in North Africa and across Europe, including the D-Day invasion.
He was a retired 18-wheel truck driver who drove for Safeway Truck Lines of Chicago, Ill.. and Refrigerated Foods.
A lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4743 in Lakefield, Minn., he also was a life member of Ohio Chapter 83 of the Disabled American Veterans and had been a member of the Moose Club in Berea, Ohio. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Surviving are two brothers, Lloyd of Lakefield, Minn., and Harold of Paynesville, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jean; his parents; three brothers and one sister. All of his brothers served in World War II with four returning home. One was killed in action and is buried in the Philippines.
Cremains will be placed in a niche with his wife, Jean, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Avon Park, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Home, Wildwood, Fla.
