Günther Rall
this totally sucks but was to be expected. the highest living ace of the Luftwaffe.
Lt. General Gunther Rall
March 10th, 1918 - October 4, 2009
General Rall passed away after suffering a heart attack on September 2nd.
He was 91 years old.
it was a pleasure to interview the man some time ago...........

Oh No!!! I was hoping to meet him this year. This is sad news. Herr Rall would often attend meetings and was always very helpful with Historians. He is a great loss for us, as his knowledge about the Lw was a gold mine.

One of the last of the real Luftwaffe aces. Even though 91 is a fine age to reach, it brings home again that a generation is now fast passing.....

Generalleutnant Günther Rall passed away
I sadly inform you that Generalleutnant Günther Rall, third-leading ace of all time, passed away at his home on Oct 4, after suffering a stroke two days before. He was 91.
He'll be greatly missed.

Herr Rall was notable for his many appearances in history documentaries, i saw him interviewed many times in the Military channel's "Wings of the Luftwaffe" series. His flawless English, his objectivity, intelligence and knowledge were very impressive - another great from history passes on.

I too saw him in many Docs. I also remember seeing him appear with Johannes "Macky" Steinhoff in a few as well.
