It seems to me the creation of these strong points or floating pockets in 1944 by Hitler was shear madness I just don’t see the point of them.

Well, they certainly stopped the Red Army in 1943… It didn't work a year later. Just as the 'not a step back' order, it saved the Wehrmacht in 1941, but doomed it in 1942…
Remember the old movie quote: 'Life's like a baseball game: some times you win, some times you lose, some times… it rains'.

I just don't see the logic in Hitler's thinking for this crazy issue in 1944.

considering the fact that the Wehrmacht had it's back to the wall on two plus fronts it did amazingly well and it is suprising the war in the European campaign was not over by Christmas 44. obviously the Austrian stooge in power kept the thing going at the cost of too many German people including some of my relatives.......
can imagine had the Luftwaffe not contended with the RAF and US airforces nor it's armies what then yee say in the Soviet favour......... ? nothing, the Wehrmacht would of continued the steam roller effect eastward
thankfully it was eliminated

In the west the Germans suddenly dug in autumn of 44, leading up to there Ardennes operation and of course the Allies out ran their supply lines. In the East they fought hard, knowing what the Russians would do if they reached Berlin. On the whole they put up one hell of a fight and not forgetting in Italy as well. From my understanding the best troops served on the Russian Front.

Yes, they did. Most regular Army units and many élite divisions were hardened and destroyed (some, more than once) there.

Hitler bled his army to death on the Ost Front and for what?
The answer mass murder.
Hitler's iron grip was incredible he used fear and terror to the max right up to the end.
