Question 6th Army (Lt. Gen. Muzychenko) Looking for information.

Hi,

I'm a wargamer and I'm building particulary the 4th. Mech. Corps (M. Gen. A. A. Vlasov) in 1:72 models scale, and 1/15 quantity scale (1 model for every 15 model of real aprox.).

Of course I got many information on the net, but some things are missing on my production plan.

Because the cost and the practicity,I choose very carefully Mr. Vlasov's Corps.

In June 22nd of 1941, just 32nd. Tank Div. and 81st. Mech. Div. were at Lwow. 8th. Tank Div. were far to the north. So, to fight at the fist moment, with 1 Mech. Div. and 1 Tank Div. will be OK. Much better, 81st Mech Div, just have 2 instead of 3 Inf. Mot. Reg. (202nd. and 323rd. - 253rd was dismissed).

OK, that's is just some of my reseach until now. My question is...,There are small units like Signals Battalion, Antiaircraft Battalion, Pontoon battalion etc. I found sites on the internet with much information, but numbers vary.
So if someone has identifyed a site with accurate information about that I’ll appreciate it if you post it, and more important, I have no idea how the Soviet tactical marks go for vehicles, so any information will be helpful.

Can someone help me on this?

Thanks for your patience.

Regards.

Gabriel.

Hi Gabriel, nice to meet you and welcome to the forums!

TOEs come in all shapes and sizes, the Soviet TOEs did suffer a lot of variation on their paper strength along time. Also, the realities of life mandate that paper strength has little or nothing to do with the actual field strength, which varies day-bay-day, even hour-by-hour.

If I can offer my humble opinion, and sice your trrop ratio (15:1) is rather a coarse one, for those divisional subunits I wouldn't be too fussy and follow a number that I feel is right.

So if your Battalion has 3 batteries of say 6 guns, does it really matter much if you display 1/15 of 18 guns or 1/15 of 12 guns? The difference doesn't ammount to much, does it? I already have trouble with 1:5 at my micro-armour scale, let alone at 1:15

And where are your photos?

Oh, the Red Army did not use much in the way of tactical markings, numbering etc, all those are very rare and short-lived. There was no developed sign system like the British or German one, only some number apllication here and there, generally. Take a good look at photos.

The idea of take big Army structures,is precisely to make "round" numbers with some common cense. For example. If you get the Tank Regs. (15th and 16th. Reg.from 8th.Div.) The 8th Div had 50 KV's. It mean, 3 models and you have a rest on your favor of 5. So, you can asume not all KV's were really KV's and maybe they fill the ranks with "other tanks". So,you can use that rest to complete the number of T-34 or other medium tank. They have 140 T-34, and it give you 9 models and a rest of 5 again. It make 10 extra tanks. But have 68 T-28. You can plas 10 here, and it give you 78, so you can put 5 T-28 and have 3 tanks in favor.

Finally, that count give you 3 KV's, 9 T-34, and 5 T-28. That only withmedium and heavy tanks. You can add the 3 lest to the light tanks, and so on...

But then you have to build the Batallons, and that is pure good taste.

Did I give you the idea?

Look difficult, and it is...,but when you get theidea, you do it very simple.

For example, the Art. Reg. I did it with 2 122mm and 1 152 mm. It doesn't mean the 3 model with play on board, it is just to give versatility to teh units. All depende the scenario you use.

If I try to justify,is and attemp to give a shock vision to the watcher...

For any forther question, please let me kow.

Regards.

Gabriel.
