If there are any gamers out there, I thought you guys might like to play a game called Strategic Command. It's a fun European Theater Grand Strategy Game, and you can download the free demo at BattleFront.com. It's a very enjoyable game that lets you conquer Europe in a Week or so.
If you do happen to download the game, take a look at the game's credits when you exit, you might see a familiar name there.
Or you can just click here to see the screen.

Hubert is a good friend of mine, we went to high school together and we live about a 5 minute walk from each other. I know for a fact that there will be some good Barbarossa scenarios available.

Otto, do you know the release ates. I checked in a games shop today, and they had neverheard of it. When he checked in the list of release dates, they had Combat Misson 2, i am assuming its one and the same. Its realse date is Nov. I recall someone saying it was out in a couple of weeks. Could Nov just be in Europe.

As far as North America is concerned, none of the batllefront games are available at game stores, they must be purchased at their website battlefront.com. Strategic Command is due out by the end of the month, while Combat Mission II is due out this November.
In Europe you will be able to purchase Combat Mission II at your local game stores, but that's it.

I downloaded the demo the other day: lots of fun! As the Allies, i declared war on Spain (to see what would happen) and got my ass kicked out of Gibraltar. Its a really cool game though, and i plan on buying the full version.
Gotta love the fact that you have to purchase units, can reinforce wounded units, can research, bomb resources, etc. I cant wait.

I downloaded a while ago and tried to figure out how it is working....I want to get more into these strat. games.
I haven't figured everything. i.e. the 'dynamics of the game' out yet...mainly due lack of time and my own thickness....And the fact I am used to straight-first-person-shooters which need nothing but some wrist-control.
Now I have to start thinking...

Tried it a couple times now, but can't win with the Axis:
1st attempt: Historically. Poland Sept.-Nov/39, Denmark 10/39, Norway was a bloodbath to some of my Corps.
That's why France took me almosr until May 1941 (!), so due invasion of Balkans (06/41) and Russia (07/41). Never saw Moscow, the EF meatgrindger consumed one armyby another. Stopped it ther.
2nd attempt: (Westward ho!) Poland 9/10-39, Denmark, left Norway, invaded France in 12/39, finished it in 04 or 05/40. Demobilized much Armies & Corps, and produced uboats, technology, planes. Cleansened Balkans in spring 41. Drove the Brits out of the med Sea and nailed them at Alexandria. Heavy and bloody air battles with Britain, when Russia invaded me in spring 1942, IIRC. Game over. You just can't trust those Russkies!
3rd attempt (Moscow with less than nothing): Poland 9-10/39, Denmark 10/39, Baltic countries 12/39, Russia Spring 1940. Leningrad fell, Kiev, and some other big cities encricled/cut-off, but I'm too weak to finish them and prefered to push my Armies forward into the russian motherland towards Moscow instead. All money into new Corps to finish the encircled/cut-off Ruskies.
In 1941, France/Belgium attacks undefended Ruhr, advance to Hamburg, advance to Berlin so I had to withdraw troops from the EF at a time when I was really near to break the Russian backbone (Tank Armies full speed to Moscow, not much in-between.
result: French stopped near Berlin, two Tank Armies and some Corps near Moscow, but stopped and about to become encircled. The rest will be just slaughter, so I stopped it.
Right now I'm thinking about a new strategy...
Cheers,
P.S. Played the Allies twice, won both times somwehere in 1944. Guess you can't loose on this side.

As Axis, if Im playing historically, Ill hit France with everything, then transfer all military units east, and use the Italians as garrison troops in France. If you mass produce armies, Russia isnt too difficult.
If as Axis youre daring, then after beating France put everything into aircraft production and tech, and attempt a sealion. If the UK surrenders before Russia enters the war, then the Axis automatically wins.

Playing as the Axis I defeated Britain, but before that happened the US entered the war so I was forced to keep playing. One strategy I used during operation Barbarossa was to have the Italians invade Greece and Turkey. This allows you to invade the Caucuses much faster, even if you decide to stop at Istanbul you can still send troop transports through the Caspian Sea allowing you to launch a seaborne invasion of the Caucuses.

Just a bit of advice, when playing as the Axis do not attack Norway until after you've defeated Britain. As doing so will cause the British fleet to interfere, and losing one of your cruisers will make Operation Sea Lion virtually impossibe.
As the allies do not attempt the low countries gamble this is where you declare war on the low countries to either deny Germany the plunder points or actually conquer the low countries to establish a defenselive line on the Rhine. This will cause the Italians to join the war much quicker and the cost of defending on two fronts is not worth it.
