Wow. Just bought this game over the weekend and LOVE it! Its awesome...you can play as the Germans, Japs, USSR, GB, or the USA. It snows/rains...there are jungles to tundras. Country-specific units. Crews can take over unmanned enemy vehicles. Pilots can fly planes, and you can load infantry into planes to drop them as Paras. Fighters can be launched to intercept enemy bombers etc. You can have up to 6 troops riding ontop of a tank which is pretty cool...means for faster deployment etc. Erm...havent played Multiplayer yet (perhaps tonight) but all in all it looks pretty fun...and challenging. There are also ships and armoured trains you can use...its pretty sweet!

Got to say, I only do 2 sims, one close combat the Market Garden release and the other Sudden strike..

Got sudden strike 1 and the add on missions but its great to see there is a whole lot of downloads being produced for battle scenarios and extra kit etc on the web.

Easy to incorporate into the original..Filling my hard drive up with new scanarios all the time...

Sorry hit wrong button...

Question for you...sudden strike 2 I know has railway transports and the ability to take prisoners? Do you have sudden strike one and is two a great enough improvement worth buying now at full price or should I wait a while for it to drop....Still downloading version one missions that keep me interested, but is two a must have improvement on one?

Well, i am not sure about the Prisoners - hasnt happened to me yet. But yes - Trains there are. You can load a bunch of people on them. There are two engiones - once at each end so you can split the cars apart - to have stationary guns while u move troops forward in transport cars. Railway can be destroyed/repaired, and the train-guns are ATGs and Howitzers/very long, accurate, ranged. Buildings are more life-sized compared to other units and u can move units into each story of a 2+ story building.church. you can capture enemy vehicles my killing all the Crew inside and either putting Captains or your own crew in the Vehicle. you need 2 to drive, 3 to be able to fire the guns.
Trees/Weather also effect everyitng - aka visibility...there are coastal batteries and ships - more multiplayer maps to to start off with, more units, and campaigns. I;d say its your decision.

Yes, it is very improved. When you start to play it, experiment around with the interface. Your tank crews can pop their head up out of the tank (to take a look around - widening view). Its a good way to draw infantry fire from buildings (when the tank gets attacked, if the guy sticking his head out survives, he pops back down, limiting the view). Its always a good idea to stick some sort of Infantry on the back of tank when going through a city. That way, if their are enemies in buildings, they will fire on your Inf which will cause your tank to return fire. Be careful though, Infantry sitting on tanks are sitting ducks when another tank rolls along. and keep in mind that Captains/Officers can also take over vehicles. And there are shore to be a few empty vehicles around. and if a Bazooka or PIAT or Anti-tank unit (the latter is German and carries around a mine despite being Infantry) attack a tank, more then likely the cew will die before the tank. Some missions it is pivotal to capture enemy tanks. so dont destroy them if they dont fire on you.

It's a great game I highly reccomend it! Also be on the lookout for Sudden Strike Forever and Sudden Strike II.

Hehe...Pepe, we were talking about Sudden Strike II. However, you need to have Sudden Strike installed on your comp. so that you can go on GAMESPY and find Multiplayer games. Or you could do what i do and go from the Main Page of that to the list of All Strategy games and Click Sudden Strike. There are people on that who have SS2 (aka Ver 2.0) and will play multiplayer. Interface is a lot prettier too (on the multiplayer screen) and i think there are more variety of maps.

All in all, a great game. I am having trouble with one of the German Missions though...for some reason the Munitions depot is about to explode (aka MISSION Failure) and i am not sure how to correct that?
