hi all,

does any body know if there are ANY decend world war 1 games or even games centred around early 20th century? ive yet to see any.

i think its the war which has the least games made about it (if any at all!) which is a shame cause i reckon a strategy or a fps would be awesome.

I didn't hear lately of WW1 games but I know there has been an old game called The Great War.
But, if you are familiar with Hearts Of Iron there is a mod for the game called The Great War mod v 1.00b. Check it out at http://www.hoi-tgw.tk/

I have never in my life heard of a World War 1 game. I think it's because most gaming companies are putting a lot of emphasis on World War 2 due to the fact that it brought down the Nazi war machine and lead to Hitler's demise.

Default Re: Are there ANY world war 1 games out there?

You should try World War 1 by the creators of Blitzkrieg.
It uses the same engine as the first Blitzkrieg (+ expansions), but you can use WWI tanks, like the British Mark series and the German A7V.
All missions are based on actual WWI battles and I've played it with pleasure.

A link with more information, mods and such:

My favorite is actually a board game so I know plenty of people who don't like it.
Diplomacy (game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
I love it because there is absolutely no luck involved in the game. To win you must shop your superior tactical and diplomatic mind. Much of the game is spent forming alliances to assist others and yourself in gaining control of territory and supply centers. To win though you must choose the precise time to betray your allies, just before they betray you. All countries start out with even forces with the exception of Russia because they are just so large, which also makes them harder to defend.

Thumbs down Re: Are there ANY world war 1 games out there?

Then of course there's Shells of Fury, the WWI sub game. While it's historically acurate (fas as I can tell) it's gameplay will, I'm afraid, appeal largely to sub buffs. There is an absence of the whoop and whirl of many of the more recent celebrated WWII sub offerings (Silent Hunter IV, Sub Command, etc.), it's at least worth a mention.

You target, tract, and fire on the allies (you're a Geman commander) in a not so hot grapical reperesentation (one reviewer labled it 'cartoonish'). The sound effects, are, however, outstanding (I still shudder at the ka-boom! of the deck gun!)

It has a pretty neat 3D library of all the vessels involved in the conflict. Over all, I still play it time to time, like it somewhat, but it's hardly one for the record books.
