I think it'll be alright.
I can't stand all these WWII scenarioed video games coming out with you portrayign either a Airborne Paratrooper or a Ranger, it sickining. I mean for crying out loud how hard is it to make a WWII video game where you fight in scenarioes as a regular ole' infantryman?? They did most of the fighting anyways why not honor them for once, ya know?
As for me, I refuse to play these games until someone comes out with a game based on the regular infantry...not these so called "elite" units...pfff...
Regards,
MARNE

It's just a RTS, with a WWII aspect.
It's really good in the RTS family, it has most of the gameplay of the previous RTS released by the same editor (Dawn of War serie), adding breathtaking graphics.
People who like RTS should really try this one, because it's one of the best on the market.
But still, it's a RTS, it lacks any kind of realism and is far from being a simulation (although they added some interesting features, like tanks have better armor in front than behind)
I am really looking forward this one, which looks like a real time WWI tactical simulator : http://simhq.com/_land2/land_055a.html

I got Company of Heroes. I like several features it has that other RTS dont have.
For instance, each soldier in the squad thinks individually. They will spread out to find cover behind walls, wrecks, rubble, slopes, and the like. Pretty intelligent. When you have a squad occupy a building, they dont just all stay on one side of the house. They spread out, covering all approaches. If the house has been damaged, then some of them will take cover in the holes or rubble. When attacking a house, nothing beats watching it take more damage from grenades and other weapons. If a house takes enough damage, from big enough weapons, it will become completely destroyed and even block roads, which adds another element to the game. Infantry squads can also be equipped with Sticky Bombs.
Vehicles can take all sorts of damage. The gunner can be killed, disabling the gun. Engines can be damaged, causing the vehicle to run out of control and crash into something, causing it to blow up and send bodies flying. All sorts of things like that. The game seems to combine elemets from games like Combat Mission (where such things occur in the turn-based combat) with RTS games.
I also like how vehicles can be upgraded. I like how that one tank can have the spinning contraption on the end of it to blow up mines safely, yet also be used to chop up any unfortuneate infantry that get too close.
And the enviroments are totally destructable. And for supplies, you have to capture little zones and make sure they connect all the way back to your base. Which adds a new thing to combat - cutting off the supply line.

Re: Company of Heroes
This game is just the best ever. (I am a fanatic for it) A sequel comes out soon, called opposing fronts, you can play as the British around Caen or the germans in Holland in 1944.

Re: Company of Heroes
Just read that the next part called "opposing fronts" let´s you play as the Germans. It seems every "Hans" has a panzerschreck and playable are Königstiger and Jagdpanther.

Re: Company of Heroes
The King Tiger is available for the regular whermact (the one in the Original game, it was playable in multiplayer) instead of the Tiger ace. The Jagdpanther is available in the tank destroyer doctrine, but only one per game. If it is destroyed, there is no more!

Re: Company of Heroes
I have the game and it gets 5-stars in my book. Excellent gameplay with different enemy strategies all the time. For all the platform gamers out there, there's a game by the same company, Relic Entertainment, called The Outfit. I don't know what systems or how good it is, but the graphics looked quite similar. I don't think it's a strategy game, but I've been wrong before!

The only reason games are focused on "elite" units is because almost all the public wants is the daring, out-of-the-norm type missions. That's why SEALs, paratroopers, and spies are great starting characters for games.

Re: Company of Heroes
The game(s) are fantastic. From what I understand, their goal is to release a new expansion title for it every year (Opposing Fronts came out 13 months after the original). Rumor has it they will do Eastern Front next time around. Although, I'd love to see the Pacific war...

I dissagree.
Though what makes COH so great is the bulk of the game is centered around the regular infantrymen. Of course, you can call in Rangers, paratroopers and Commandos if your play style suits it.
PS-Why did they call the British special infantry, 'Royal Commandos'? And I highly doubt that the real commandos never used Gliders.
Thing is about having a Pacific war COH is the Japanese tanks (Or the lack of). Though I would love to see an Ost Front and a N.Africa COH!

Re: Company of Heroes
Agreed. But, I think it would be better to have the German vs. Russian front going on as opposed to another expansion with American/British vs. German (hence, North Africa). Either way, I look forward to more expansions in this series...
