I am surprised at this section of the forum, everyone goes for computer games, nobody does it the old way, with tables, models and figures!

I have quite a bunch of Russians for all periods of the war, and started buying some Brits for France '40.

When I have more developments I'll post some pics, as I'm rebasing a lot of stuff, all this in micro-armour. Some time ago I bought some 3000 Russian infantry in ebay, but they are so badly painted that I might as well have simply bought them from the shop and painted them myself!

At the same time I'm refurbishing my wargames table, doing terrain modules from Roofmate.

Well, for people like me, the kind of people i grew up with werent into that sort of thing. Goes hand in hand with games like Dungeons and Dragons. I'd love to make/collect WW2 Models, but am afraid my painting skills etc are not very good. And i wouldnt know how to find like minded players.

I actually have masses of miniatures and rules dating back decades for them. Some of the collection includes:

Ancients in 25mm and 15mm using WRG Ancients rules for the most part.

ACW in 25mm and 15mm Johnny Reb and several other sets of rules

Colonials in 15mm

WW II 1/35th, 1/72nd, 1/285th with multiple rules sets.

Modern 1/285th with several rules sets.

WW I and II naval in 1/700th mostly Fletcher Pratt's Naval Wargame and 1/2400 in several different rules sets.

Modern Naval in 1/2400th

WW II aerial warfare in 1/72nd using Mustangs and Messerschmitts


Mussolini, you might contact the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society (hmgs.com). They are fairly strong on the East coast.

You might want to check that link...its a .org not a .com....the .com takes you to a very buggy site.

I've been toying with the idea of buying miniatures for a long time. Either Colonial Period or WWII...i love going to historic museams and seeing the panaromas they have of battles etc made out of figures. My hardest problem i think will be to find such miniatures and then paint them. I have a lot of free time this semester (last one of college before i graduate) so it might not be a bad idea to get started. Most likely will have to order online, but wouldnt know where to start!

Musso, I suppose the best thing first would be to find a wargames club in your neighbourhood and find out what they are playing.

As for myself, I had to leave my old club behind when I moved to another place, but I already belong to the local plastic modelling club and will be trying to muster a few to play figure games with me. I'll see what I can develop from here.

Regarding computer games, it's all fine and dandy, they have magnificent graphics (which somebody else painted, not you) and you don't have to have the effort to put your figures and scenario away (that's the part I hate!). But When the game is over can you go out for a beer with the computer screen and tell jokes about the game? No? Then you're missing the best part!
