The ignorance of the average American regularly amazes me.

That's a touch harsh Ali, I probably know as little about cricket as Mussolini, I just know we suck!

The tour of Australia has not ended in a total white wash we have at long last won a game against Australia, what a relief.

Watch what you say Ali.
I was actually raised in England, so i know how to play cricket and what it is. Over in the states, it gets absolutely no coverage. So for some one to pop on and say: will the press let the england team back in the country - under the title of cricket, its a little confusing. No link to an article, or explanation of why the 'press' wont allow them back in (which doesnt make any sense whatsoever)
Australians arent the smartest people either. I've been to the country and experianced some amazing things - like an Australian woman spitting on my GF because we're American and she (the Australian) doesnt agree with Bush's foreign policy. Or how about that incident with the Aboriginal Woman who - at a bus stop - started having convulsions. All the Australians stepped over her thinking she was a drunk. It wasnt until an hour later that a TOURIST realised what was happening and got her help. The ignorance of the average australian....geesh.

What is this 'Cricket' game of which you speak? No such game.
Someone also told me there was a place called 'Australia', but it all sounds rather far-fetched to me...
A whitewash is still a whitewash, even with one tiny speck in the finish.
Cheers,
Adam.

It's not a 100% whitewash and we are still number 2 in the world rankings.

I agree Richard, I normally try and avoid the easy slagging of the national team. Trouble is, for me, even if you place 100 other games in the balance with the ashes they don't quite tip the scales.
And there's still no such place as Australia... until the next time.

All's not lost for you Brits on here.
England still has a chance [a slim one] of making the finals, and who knows?
Pieterson back?

Browsing for any stuff that helped me make sense of a game where players wave their arms in imitation of a Corsair taking off from Illustrious, the audience clap for no visible reason, and players take tea breaks, I came into this:
Quote:
Glenn McGrath & Eddo Brandes
After Brandes played & missed at a McGrath delivery, the Aussie bowler politely enquired:
"Oi, Brandes, why are you so fat?"
"Cos every time I f**k your wife she gives me a biscuit," Brandes replied.

Can't be a bad game after all if you're given biscuits!

lol Za!
I think for the majority of people in cricket-less countries find the sport a little...confusing. I'm clueless as to that score sheet (richards post) and am unfamiliar with the rules. I was 8 when i left the UK. I think the sport is interesting though. I originally used to think that the 'batter' would try to hit the ball as hard as he could, but then i realised that sometimes he goes for placement, or a shot where he bloops it over his head and that of the first line of 'fielders'. my terminology might be wrong, but i watched a game for a short while a year or two ago and remember that particular play.

It's easy, just memorise these handy terms and you're nearly there:
Terminology
You'll be bowling a maiden over on a sticky wicket and giving silly mid-off a tickle before you know it .

I can't take credit for this pic, Von Poop was the person who alerted it to me. It seemed more than appropriate for this thread!
