My Grandfather, Henry Harden Newland, was a second lieutenant in F company, 2nd battalion. On 11/10/43, F company captured 23 German soldiers on a ridge just to the west of Vallecupa Italy. On that day LT Newland was mortally wounded and died three days later. He Recieved a Silver star for his actions that day.

My MOM was one month old the day he died.

I would hope somebody knows a soldier who served in F company at that time and could put me in touch.

Info on where to find his militay records and morning reports from that time, I would like to read his citation orders espesialy.

Thanks in advance. Bill madolive3 at yahoo.com

Now we have something work with. "F company, 2nd battalion" is like asking if I know a John Smith that lives in New York, City. lol

A museum dedicated to the 45ID, a very good resource for finding documents, photos and all kinds of stuff--even vets that might have known your relative.

This was their Division patch prior to the US joining the war.

    Their new, well known patch.

Just curious to see if you ever found any reports from time your grandfather served. My grandfather also served in 45th/180th/Co F same time period. He is now 89 and still discusses his memories with the 45th. I will ask him if he remembers your grandfathers name. He talks about a CPT Crye that served in Co F (guessing a company commander).
