The 214th AAA saw service in Sicily, Corsica, and France during the war. It may have been in Germany but I have no confirmation of that. I have the Bn Journals for 1943 and the Unit Histories for October 1943 and August – December 1944. I also have two Signal Corps photos from the NARA and about 15 General Orders of the Bn. I will be glad to provide copies to any one whose relative served in the 214th. Dave
Hi Dave: My father serviced with the 214th CA (AA) on Guadalcanal. It appears the 214th BN was another group which came from Cp Hulen Tx. I have a report on this group if your interested. If you have any information on the 214th CA (AA) on Guadalcanal 1942 and 1943 I would like a copy. Drop me an e-mail at farne230@yaho.com and I will send you a scanned copy of this 214th CA Bn Journal for 1942 and 1943. Thanks, Bob
I own a copy of the unit history of the 214th Coast Artillery Regiment, Georgia National Guard. One of the best books I've ever read. Richard V. Horrell
Richard V. Horrell : Does anyone have information on the 214th CA (AA) regiment which served on Guadalcanal in the South Pacific? Thanks, Bob Farne230@yahoo.com
Dave, I just found documents from my grandfather that show he served in the 214th. I'd be fascinated to get any of this information!! I can send you his statement if you'd like.
According to General Orders 3, HQ, 214th AAA, dated 22 July 1944, PFC Lewis M. Schroeder, ASN 36362158, was awarded the Good Conduct Medal (Image 1333, 26 June 2009). PFC Schroeder belonged to B Battery. Dave
Dave: My father SSgt James M Kirkham, served in the 214th AAA and saw service in all the countries listed above and North Africa. I would be very interested in obtaining copies of the information you have on this unit including the signal corps photo and general orders. His Military records were destroyed in the St Louis fire....all I have is his discharge paper which indicates he was in Battery C. Thanks for any information you can share. Miriam
Miriam, According to General Orders 3, HQ, 214th AAA, dated 2 March 1945, SGT James M. Kirkham, ASN 16054293, was awarded the Good Conduct Medal (Image 1326, 26 June 2009). Your dad belonged to C Battery. Give me your email address and I will send you the scanned copies of the Bn Histories I have and this page of the GO. Dave
my grandfathers papers also say 1 silver & 1 bronze battle stars. My family would love to know how he obtained these awards to further honor his service.
After further research I see there is a difference between the silver battle star and The silver star. Are the stars my grandfather was awarded just for the campains and battles he took part in?
Yes, probably. The silver campaign star was awarded to represent 5 campaigns and are worn on the theater campaigns ribbon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_star
Correct, a silver battle star marks five campaigns and a bronze battle star one campaign on the EAME ribbon. One silver and one bronze equals six campaigns however the 214th Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion (90-mm ?) is credited with seven campaigns. The Ardennes-Alsace campaign was probably added later but many veterans were discharged without having it on their record. The seven campaigns in order: Sicily Naples-Foggia Rome-Arno Southern France Rhineland Ardennes-Alsace Central Europe The 214th Coast Artillery Regiment (AA) is also mentioned in this topic and they fought in the Pacific.
According to General Orders 7, HQ, 214th AAA, dated 7 May 1945, T/5 William R. Howard, ASN 36514523, was awarded the Good Conduct Medal (Image 1312, 26 June 2009). He belonged to A Battery. Dave
My dad was also assigned to the Hq Btry 214th AAA Bn, TEC 5 Charles J. Alongi. I am trying to figure out if there are other service members that might have served with him still alive. He is still alive in lives in the Detroit Mich area. His birthday is coming up and I want to surprise him with a shadow box. I would also like to provide him with a memory book of the "where and when" of that timeframe. If anyone can help, sure would appreciate.
According to General Orders 3, HQ, 214th AAA Bn, dated 22 July 1944, PVT Charles J. Alongi, ASN 36526247, was awarded the Motor Vehicle Mechanic and Driver's Badge (Image 1334, 26 June 2009). Dave
