My Dad served in the USA 282nd Field Artillery Battalion. I have been able to find some good summary information about the battalion from the family of other battalion members. This includes a list of towns occupied and passed through, plus a brief 3-page history from the Office of the Chief of Military History dating from 1955. The list of towns is titled ANNEX "A" but the person who provided me the document no longer remembers where it came from. I have experience with family history research but not so much with military history research. Would anyone be willing to share pointers on how to get started in researching US World War II history, especially for this battalion? The resources mentioned in the thread on the 270th Field Artillery Battalion is very intriguing. However I'm not sure how many of the resources can be accessed online, contacted online, or require in-person visits. Thanks very much for any guidance you can offer! I am new to these forums, so please let me know if there is a FAQ that I have missed about this topic. Michael
I recognize this 282nd sign!! I am Robert Hurleys daughter, this sign was made for the reunions..who is your Dad?
Hi Teresa - I have replied with a private message. Yes, I took my avatar from photos that I received from the 2 last reunions of the 282nd.
Michael; I am the OP for the 270th discussion. The only place I actually visited in person was the National Archives. Everywhere else was done via e-mails, or website searches. Hope this helps. v/r Brian

Michael, My father — Robert Culhane — was in Battery A of the 282nd Field Artillery Battalion. Can you make available to me the information you have on the 282nd? Also, may I ask what was your father’s name and do you know which Battery he was in? Garrett Culhane
Sure, I would be happy to email what I have. I'll contact you via PM with more details. My Dad was part of Headquarters Battery.
Teresa, Your father — Robert Hurley — was in the same 282nd Field Artillery Battalion Battery as my father — Robert Culhane — which was Battery A. If you have any information about the 282nd, I would so much like to hear from you. Garrett Culhane
My father served with the 282nd FAB Company C. I have several pictures he took of the men and places some of Ordruf as well. I would be happy to share. My email is rvah5@yahoo.com. Chuck Armstrong
Hi all. I took @Nicelyb's advice and visited archives. The National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis has the morning reports that lets you know where the battalion ended up each day. The National Archives in College Park has operations reports that also provide the routes traveled. Using those I have put together a Google map that shows where Headquarters Battery of the 282nd was from activation in June 1943 through deactivation in October 1945. The other batteries were usually close by, but perhaps some miles away on any particular date. If you would like to see the map, just message me your email address. I think you may need that address associated with a Google account to view it. I'll try to post an overview picture here too. Michael
My father was a Sargent in the 282nd. B. I have dozens of pictures of 282 nd. troops in the field during the war that my dad took. Most of them have the names on the back. My email address is rvah5@yahoo.com I would love to see the route they took if you would share. Many Thanks Chuck Armstrong
The map is awesome and shows the movement of the battalion in a clear and concise way that words alone struggle to. Well done indeed. I may have a new project to do over Christmas break.
