It is highly significant as it is of a design which was discontinued by the Defence Force in the mid 1940s and one which is unique to the Northern Territory. The site consists of four circular concrete gun emplacements in an arc around a central command post that is also of concrete and partially underground. There are remnant concrete slabs of other buildings and ablution facilities in the area and the walls of a magazine store. The guns went into action on 13/06/1942 and again on the 15 & 16 June 1942.
Love it! Haven't seen a design like that before, it looks twice the size of every other ack-ack site I've ever seen. Are the ready ammo lockers flush with the walls, or is it just the angle? Any more shots of the command post, particularly inside?
I just added another 2 videos - one on the ground with the GoPro and the other from the air with the drone. If you want anything else let me know - its only a 10 minute drive to the site.
