I bought a Thompson M1928A1 at a militaria and arms fair yesterday and it was very very dirty, and i am currently restoring it. All the metals parts cleaned up pretty good, but the hand guard and the grip is not that good(It is missing the stock though). And i was wondering where i could find a stock, hand guard and grip for it. The most important thing is that i get a stock. I can try to restore the hand guard and grip, but it will not turn out that good. So my questions are: Will a normal Thompson M1A1/M1 stock fit in my M1928A1, and the same with the hand guard and grip? Does anybody know where i can get these parts?
This gives a good comparison which seems to indicate the stocks would be compatible with a small amount of work; Modern Firearms - Thompson M1921 M1928 M1 and M1A1 submachine gun / "Tommy Gun" This guy sells custom stocks; Page Title and this guy has parts too; http://www.tommygunner.com/pages/parts/index.htm and this guy seems to be the 'everything about thompsons' guy; Mike's Machine Guns.com hope it helps
I think the M1928 and the M1928A1 have the same kind of stocks. I did find out that it will be hard to save the pistol grip as it is very rotten.
Sorry to diverge, but I found this 1960s toy Tommy gun advert on youtube yesterday- YouTube - Mattel Tommy Burst TV commercial 1960s!

I owned one of those as a kid, great fun for "playing soldier", not just "cops and robbers". And trust me, they came out well before 1960, that was just when that ad was produced.
sorry can't be sure - perhaps the seller would know - I think so from looking at the photos but you'd be able to see better i think from what you have
I think you need to be a little careful here - the M1928 and M1 models had different types of stock. The 1928 version could be slid off, whereas the M1 had a simplified, screw-on type. I'm not sure if they're easily interchangeable.....
I think the M1928 and the M1928A1 have the same kind of stocks, not quite sure about the M1/M1A1 though.
