Of VMF-214 “Black Sheep” Squadron, USS Sicily 1951. A Revell model and enough said about that. $20.00. If I could have gotten a Tamiya I would have, but Hobby Lobby didn’t have any Tamiya on the shelf except a Walker tank and I wanted a aircraft. Preferably a Corsair or a Spitfire. And I know I could have paid about $20.00 more by ordering one from Amazon but I am trying to keep the credit card balance at a minimum. So, as usual, my own paint scheme (flat black Testors spray can) and my own decal scheme. I didn’t want to mix paints or get a blue solid color so I used this and a spray can of modeling paint instead and instead of an airbrush bottle. Leave that to the “master modelers”. I wanted it to look rather weathed and beat from the many missions and strafing encounters. I have seen some rugged in actuality on line with Google. Some of the very small decals, I omitted. But, no excuses, even though Revell quality has never been what Tamiya produces, I could have done a few things better. But that’s just me. The biggest problem was that this is supposed to be able to have the wings fold up like they do on a carrier, but the hinge for right wing would just not cooperate and also had me leaving more of a “gap” between the two wing sections than I wanted, so I just eliminated that option and glued them solid. And holding and supporting it until the glue hardened was something to behold. Anyway, I’m happy. Doesn’t take too much to accomplish that for me in the building of a model.
Looks good…remember the trick of applying glue and waiting for it to become tacky before fitting the piece…dramatically reduces the ‘holding together’ time…
