Used search cannot find anything relevant to add this too so starting a new topic for those interested. Came across this site on a military group..Hope some find it interesting. http://www.ronaldv.nl/abandoned/airfields/ge/index.html The actual home page drilling further back is interesting but not all the locations and countries are ww2 related. http://www.forgottenairfields.com
Many thanks for the link. I was stationed in Giessen, Germany and heard rumors of an old airfield there. Now it's confirmed. Thanks again.
Wonderful data base, still a bit empty , but if they need info about old French airfields , I know the whereabouts of quite a few.
urgh, great link. I have been slowly going through the list of bases, then finding them on Google Earth , many have photo links which allows more images but some such as Skipton does not. I kept trying street view but few if any have been recorded. have not been recorded. . Still fun to explore and still doing so.. Prior to this link I have just looked at UK bases.
I think I may have found another one, and a famous one at that; https://maps.google.se/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=214609485238357712265.0004e827f3aeda715b2cd It's near Tatsinskaya, whose airfield was raided on 24th-28th December 1942, to prevent resupplies to the trapped 6th Army elements, and to divert Manstein's relieving force. The airfield seems to have fallen out of use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatsinskaya_Raid
