My paper heads the front page today with "every wave brings new bodies to shore"...

The count isn't over, and neither is the disaster... Gatsby, I hope you're okay!

    Well, I'm still alive.

Singapore is pretty unhurt since "only" 200 of our number died and all appened to be on holiday in Thailand. We're quite lucky actually, since the whole of Singapore is very sheltered. (We haven't had a natural disaster as far as I can remember). Malaysia lies to the north, while Indonesia covers the other three directions. They're big peninsulas that show up on the world map (unlike us), so we didn't get hit after all. Our economy is very dependent on maritime shipping so it would have been disaster if we had been hit.

    Great to hear!

For a European "south Asia" is just a large area and as far as I know anyone in it could have been hit by the disaster. I'm glad this is not entirely true...

    Ray243: sorry, I didn't know that. :(

    29 confirmed British dead
120,000+ people in one set of natural disasters...

It is heartening to see the governments & the people of the world donating so much money/goods/equipment/specialists to help.

I gave 50p to a charity box. I didn't think it would help much until somebody said to me:

"50p can feed a person for one day. Out there somewhere there is a person thankful of that money. They have food now, be it only for one day it is more than they would have had."

God bless all of those who give money, prayers, support or even just good thoughts.

    Stones?! That's even pre-Imperial system! :D

Death toll is still expected to rise even though most of the countries have simply stopped counting. It could be over 100,000 in Atyeh alone. The total now stands at 130,000...

This disaster is truly of biblical proportions; those of us who believe, we really need to pray for those people.

I thought it sad to see some religious zealot nutcases proclaim this a punishment of God right away. I mean, 150,000 people died and their only comment is, "we'd better be careful or the next Tsunami wil be in the Atlantic"?!
