Roel. Because this is a forum frequented by blokes. Ricky. Gone are the days when swearing will get a film an 18 cert. When I was young, I went to see the film Saturday Night Fever it was cert 18 because the "F" word was used twice. Nowerdays literally dozens of "F" words are heard in 15 cert films. I even heard one, once in a 12 or PG.
Indeed. It gets a bit one-sided I guess. Unless of course there are homosexuals around, but I haven't seen any here yet (shy?). I bet there will be a worldwide run on video stores by certain people frequenting a certain forum as soon as Christian reveals in which movies the nudity of Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie occured.
12 films are allowed to have a certain amount of violence and are allowed to say F*** once. but 15 has their limmit exstended, but some seens are still contaversahl in 18s such as zombie flesh eaters where this woman has her eye rammed into a sharp bit of wood. that has only just been allowed to be shown
Just don't expect they to be wearing a sign saying they're gay - but that is another discussion He he he - don't worry, I would get a writers cramp trying to get THAT down
I work part-time in an off-licence/video store, so that list might be good for trade! Christian, you did say "writers" cramp didn't you?
Well, Angelina Jolie, certainly. I only know of one (Swordfish) where Halle Berry goes topless... Maybe I watch the wrong films! But anyway! Has anybody else seen Alexander? I am considering going to see it now - I just need to find somebody who will come along and listen to my ranting...
Hmm... not sure if my girlfriend would be happy with me geting out a film because "I was told Halle Berry gets her kit off in it"
This movie did win lots of prizes though, for obscure reasons, but probably because the jury secretly liked it since they were told Halle Berry gets her kit off in it! I'd love to come along and listen to your ranting, however, first I must get on a plane to Luton and arrange a stay somewhere.
I just wonder why in those movies they always take actors that don't really fit in their roles. I mean, already in "Troy", Brad Pitt playing Achilles wasn't very credible as a greek. Altough he's a good actor, he just does not look like a greek. It's similar with Collin Farell as Alexander. Why always take so "nordic" looking actors for playing greeks? Why not take a black or an asiatic actor for the next greek role? :-?
They use big stars that people like. Guess how many women went to see Troy (and continue to rent it out) because Brad Pitt wore a skirt... Lots, if the women around here are anything to go by*. Yes, this is annoying. Our Senior Postgrad lecturer at Luton Uni (who is Greek) would make a better Alexander, based on the few pictures we have of him (mostly Roman...). Or Sean Bean playing Odysseus (sorry for spelling!) - with a broad Sheffield accent! *legal note - yes, I'm sure many men often go to see films because attractive women feature (see Tombraider). I just used Troy & Brad Pitt as the example...
I disagree with you on two points - one, people do not watch Tomb Raider to see an attractive woman, they watch it to see her frontsection. Two, Sean Bean's accent is hilarious and he should never have it changed. COntrary to Troy, however, the actors in Alexander do their job marvellously well even though they don't look like Greeks. I was particularly surprised at the performance of Val Kilmer as Philippos II. And surprise, surprise, it turns out that even Angelina Jolie can act. By the way, what did you think of that woman who played Helena in Troy? The most beautiful woman in the world, according to Homer - her?! Those icy blue eyes sent chills running down my spine. She hadn't an inch of warmth in her. Ugh!
I'm with Roel - too icy. And too stupid. In Hector's place, I'd have been sorely tempted to dump Helen & Paris outside the gates and into the hands of the Greeks.
I agree that it has definately something to do with attracting those 50% of the cinema audience which has historically cared little for war movies. That being said, it is by no means impossble to have a people from the Mediteranian countries with blond hair - I come into contact with, amongst others, a lot of Spanish people through by job, and several of them are blonds.
Yes, but strangely every Helena I've seen was a blonde. See the miniseries "Odysseus", "Helen of Troy" and the movie mentioned above. Is that some kind of beauty ideal I don't share? If it went by this forum poll obviously "the most beautiful woman in the world" would be a redhead. Ricky, if I were Hector in that movie I would have done just that.
Helen??? No way, not at all what I thought of as the most beautiful woman! I think hector's wife was prettier.
