Allied Blunders in Italy, the Soft Underbelly of Europe

    They didn't even need to do that.

    Jast advance as fast as you can after landing, the presence of the anglo-american-franco-polish army would have been a great morale booster for the terrified Italian Army which was smashed by the Germans near Rome.

    Although there would have been a Kesslering Line made somewere else the Italians would have helped to make the whole campaign much easier.

    Imagine Rome and everything south of it in allied hands before Kesslring had time to organize, or Hitler had time to send reinforcements.

    And why the Allied navies failed to close the straits of Messina is still a controversial subject in certain circles.
