I blame the English, for not taking it lightly that we beat them at sea several times. Who's RTC btw?
Hey guys, let me tell you that soccer is plenty popular in the U.S.It just can't seem to catch on like AMERICAN FOOTBALL or baseball. The Chicago Fire is a pretty damn good team.SOCCER just gets overlooked.SOCCER leagues for kids are not a rarity.SOCCER is also played at the high school and college level.
Roel - hey, most countries have similar stuff about, well, most other countries. For example, a French letter. And in at least one European country, they say 'English courage', not Dutch courage! And don't forget Dutch uncle - a wise councellor.
STEELERS! Girls play soccer. In fact, the only real reason soccer is popular among the youth sports leagues is because of "soccer moms". Single women who don't want their son's playing rough sports.
Having played soccer for nearly 10 years I can assure you that it isn't that soft. Baseball or basketball are soft sports, but not soccer.
I'm not sure about original baseball but our version of baseball is actually a bit dangerous sport, years ago when helmets weren't mandatory equipment in our main league, there were some players killed every now and then when they were hit head by that hard ball flying over 100km/h. Thats why in elementary school they usually play with tennisball. Therefore I like soccer more than our baseball. By the way, I'd like to know the differences bethween rugby, american football and that rugby-style game they play in Australia. I don't know anything about rules, pointcalculating systems etc. Could someone shed light?
Notmi. Re rules of football type games. DON'T GO THERE!!! It would take about a day just to explain the differences between Rugby league & Rugby union. Without touching on the other two sports you mention.
calling football 'soccer' u should be ashamed with yourself david! another thing football is far more popular than american rugby (sorry football) will ever be. i think the americans choice of sports is a bit like their choice of president popular in the usa but laughed at elsewhere!!
When an Englishman says "Football"; he is refering to Soccer. When an American says "Football"; he is refering to Gridiron Football. To use the word "Football" in the company of your own countrymen is fine, they will understand what you mean. However, posting on a multi national forum for instance you would be wise to make it clear which type of "Football" you are referring to. After all, it might be Aussie Rules Football, or Gaelic Football, to name but another two. There is nothing wrong with calling Soccer "Football". It is a type of "Football" . But Englishmen on the whole, don't for some reason, like "Football" being called Soccer.
I think that most Americans wouldn't like their type of Football being referred to as Soccer either. (Maybe I'll begin to do so )
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrg! Football, not soccer (which some Americans refer to as football) is football.
only the amercans call football soccer no one else. its called football cuz it played with ur feet. anyway football is a far more passionate game thats for sure. i lived in the usa for a year and i always called it football i neva referred to it as soccer
Baseball and American football (and rugby etc) are sports that are physically dangerous. Soccer, basketball, ice hockey etc attract people who often become physically dangerous. I don't play or like to play any of them. What, is it so strange not to enjoy pain? Pain is a sign of something being wrong. People shouldn't like pain. :-? Yay, Duch masters!
