I'm in the middle of watching Anne Frank's Holocaust on Nat Geo. A heartbreaking documentary which also discusses the present archaeological studies of various camps. Well crafted doc with a bit more info based on newly found evidence. It's a tough watch for obvious reasons but is well told.
I have been to Bergen Belsen where it is believed that she died. My father's unit got there just days later. Words cannot describe how it feels to stand amidst the acres of mounds wherein bodies were buried. You just cannot imagine it.
I watched the same documentary, it was really sad! Even more so to discover that the camp got liberated just a couple of weeks after she died. I truly believe that had she known that her Father was still alive, she may have had the will to continue that bit longer and got liberated. Anne assumed that her family were all dead, after caring and then losing her elder sister in the same camp. Such a shame!
