Besides the obvious screw up by Napalitano on the "accidental" release of the "rise of the right wing violence" and her begrudging "apology, now look what she says about illegal immigration (She's in "charge of US Border Security too): DHS Chief Napolitano: Illegal Immigration Is Not a Crime Wednesday, April 22, 2009 11:26 AM By: Jim Meyers Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stunned many listeners during an appearance on CNN when she asserted that illegal immigration is really not a crime. In an interview with CNN’s John King last week, Napolitano discussed Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Ariz., a strict enforcer of immigration laws who says he wants illegal aliens to be prosecuted and jailed. King said: “A lot of Democrats in Congress want you to investigate him. They think he is over the line. He says he is just enforcing the law and the problem is the federal government.” Napolitano responded: “Sheriff Joe … knows that there aren’t enough law enforcement officers, courtrooms or jail cells in the world to do what he is saying. “What we have to do is target the real evil-doers in this business, the employers who consistently hire illegal labor, the human traffickers who are exploiting human misery. “And yes, when we find illegal workers, yes, appropriate action, some of which is criminal, most of that is civil, because crossing the border is not a crime per se. It is civil. But anyway, going after those as well.” The fact is, crossing the border without authorization is a crime. The statute reads: “Any alien who enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers . . . shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both.” This woman (?) is totally incompetent and should resign immediately!
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stunned many listeners during an appearance on CNN when she asserted that illegal immigration is really not a crime. Not a crime!what?
Just some more prime examples of idiots who are NOT qualified to hold the offices they hold-and who make up the vast majority of the new Admins hand-picked twirps. This is going to be a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonng four years.
Obviously, Napolitano should never have been appointed to her office. I think the same could be said of numerous other cabinet officers, including the Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, and the Attorney General; They should all resign. But it 's not going to happen unless a lot of people start complaining. I have just sent BO an e-mail asking when Napolitano is going to resign. If enough people do that he might start wondering himself. If anybody else would like to send him an e-mail, it's easy, just go to this web page; Contact Us
I am going to go "Hard to Port" on this one or at least what might seem very liberal. All I ask is that you read, It all, and then take a moment and think about what I said; before you Napalm me. She has a point; she just didn't make it very well. If you punish the people that give them jobs, provide housing, health care, eduaction, or in other words "enable" them then there will be less incentive for them to come here. Unfortunately we are going to have an illegal immigration problem until American citizens are willing to work long hours for low pay or the US tax payers are willing to pay more for their groceries and land scaping. I am a General Contractor. I do not hire subs that cannot provide documentation for their workers...... "No Social Security card no workie workie"..........I do not hire casual laborers or the guys that wait in the parking lot of Home Depot for a truck with a lumber rack to come in and then swarm you looking for work. Illegal Immigration is the largest scourge to our society. It affects every aspect of our lives. So, instead of asking for an appointed public official to resign; I say resign yourselves to maintaining a higher standard and stop enabling un documented workers from having jobs. Spend your money as local as you can. Avoid the "Big Box" stores and utilize the smaller locally owned shops. Avoid Costco, Wal Mart, Denny's, and other chains. Keep your money as local as possible and tell the person taking your money why you are there. Brad
Have the illegals only started coming in since Obama came to power? How many got in during the last administration? I dont know, I'm only asking before I share the Napalm.. What was done about it for the last 8 years? Particularly where employers are concerned as they have a feq questions in both our countries I would like to address, as they are not above any of our laws. I do realise the thread is based on the ladies (?) understanding of your laws, which she seems to have shunted to one side. But the bigger pictue is what do you as a nation intend to do about it and how does this differ from the last 8 years I guess. We here have similar problems. English jobs for English workers....something the Prime minister foolishly came out with lately, and the workers in one industry took him for his word when slating foreign workers...not immigrants...for taking contracts in this country. Not a crime. The emplyment contracts though seem too iffy in places that would stop an organised firm of UK workers applying for same roles. Instead of en mass temporary workers housed on boats or caravans. I guess though my main point, is even if she is an idiot where your laws are concerned, we all have em, she could be replaced, but what differences in the immigration policy exist between present and previous administrations anyway?
Hi Urgh, nope. Illegals have been flooding across our border for several decades. Most notably starting in the 1930s to 1950s, then slacked off a bit but is now epidemic in perportion. The poblem is so bad around here that for about 40 years ago, they started printing just about everything in two languages-long before it became a "fad" to do so in the rest of the Country. If you speak with many locals here who are American of Mexican descent--they feel about it the same way I do because they also know that their jobs and lifestyles are on the line because of the cheaper labor that is available.
Some of what you say is true. American employers all too frequently are willing to hire illegal immigrants for low-paying jobs that would normally be difficult to fill without foreign labor being available. However, there are currently existing laws mandating severe penalties, including stiff fines and jail time, for illegally hiring people who have no right to work in the United States. To my knowledge, these laws are being diligently enforced. This does not excuse Napolitano from misrepresenting the illegal entry into the United States as a "civil matter", when it is clearly a violation of Federal criminal statutes. She either deliberately made that misrepresentation, or is unaware of the true nature of the law. Either way, her characterization of the matter demonstrates either incompetence or dishonesty and that justifies calling for her resignation.
Behind you 100% and I am aware of the penalties; but, empowering local communities to combat illegal workers is a good move. Allowing building inspectors to check socail security cards or mandating that builders provide the information would be a big step. the same coiuld be done with health and safety inspectors in the food, lodging and retail industry. Of course all of this would result in higher prices to the consumer. Removing the illegal immigration infrastructure and making it harder for the illegals to find work, housing, employment and health care would be a big step. I don't think her intention was to imply that illegal immigration was a "civil matter" in the sense that the Feds wanted nothing to do with it and local authorities were responsible. My impression is that she feels there are things that local governments could do more effectively to combat illegal immigration. That's just what I took from her statements. Brad
I watched the original interview sequence, and that was not my impression. I felt that Napolitano was trying to de-emphasize the importance of the Federal government's role in preventing illegal immigration in the first place. This, I believe, is a mistake, especially when terrorists can take advantage of our porous borders to perpetrate an attack on the public. Checking Social Security cards months after the fact isn't going to prevent that kind of problem.
Good point; but, if you dismantle the infrastructure that supports illegal immigration then you are making a positive step. Pointing fingers and dodging responsibilty is not a productive course of action.
