Hi experts. Another mystery for me . This 1 1940 London made bag with broad arrow is certainly British army and probably left by the B.E.F. in France (where I bought it) . I don't know whether it's a tent bag, a tool box protection etc... Your hlp to identify this will be appreciated.
Is this the same thing? http://picclick.co.uk/Ww2-Dated-British-Army-Bivouac-Tent-Bag-Or-131884467738.html
Thanks Owen, so it is a tent bag indeed. Note mine has two eylids one each side vs one on your pic (different maker detail).
Possible , but it's a bit hard to believe they kept their material in stores for 4 longs years while every object was in shortage those days . I can imagine a 6 months delay which means that though being issued around 1941 it did not land in France until 1944.
The name Whiteleys is the same as the store acquired by Selfridge in 1929. This may have been part of the draper's war effort. An Oxford high street label tent bag! It shouldn't really be a surprise since Burberry and Aquascutum invented the trench coat
