Carl where are you seeing this ? on the front page possibly ? I cannot seem to get the front page to download sufficiently. Rats E
Hi Erich--just click on the Bismarck Club button and then when the screen comes up--just scroll down where you see something abouit Membership Status. Im in the Special Membership group--III--because im such good friends with many of the U 181 crewmen.
Thanks for the site, Carl! However, the pictures need higher quality... And I think the information is a bit poor...
Did anyone here get the chance to watch the special on the Bismarck on Discovery Channel a while back? IL DUCE [ 07. March 2003, 11:02 PM: Message edited by: Il DUCE ]
Which one? there has been two or three in the last 5 or so years. I think I have them all on tape including the excellent piece that had Dr. Robert Ballard showing how he discovered the Bismarck.
It was just this year...made by James Camron.... I think it was simply titled "BISMARCK". Not too sure though. IL DUCE
Thanks for the info--if it was made or released this year--I do not have it. I do seem to remember that James Cameron DID have something to do with the Bismarck, but I don't recall when. If it turns out to be at least 2 yrs old--chances are I do have it on tape. Do you think this was something PBS--or--The History Channel--or--The Learning Channel did?
This was released sometime in November... I believe it was on the history channel..not too sure though. Hope even that little bit of info helps IL DUCE
Thanks. If it was in Nov 2002--I didnnt get to tape it. Good thing about THC is that they repeat everything untill you get so sick of watching it.
Cameron's show was on the Discovery Channel. Fanatastic show! Wonderful explanation on the sinking and break-up as she went down. Amazing battle damage video as well...and a view inside the battle bridge and the destruction wrought by one of Rodney's shells....
So True about THC Carl.... I was lucky enough to get a head's up on when it would be airing so I was able to tape it IL DUCE
Thanks Ivan. and now I have to make sure to see it. Totally agree with you Duce--and--I know they will have to replay it sometime soon. I miss watching those Documentaries.
Carl: here's the site where you can take a quick look at the actual documentary done by Cameron... Discovery-----Bismarck There's also a link there that will take you to the site where you can purchase it on VHS or DVD. IL DUCE
Thank you Duce--I just visited the nice site. I liked the enteractive parts of the site too. I wonder if Ivan knows of this site?
Both documentaries were excellent: that of james Cameron was very scientific and good. But the one I watched on the History Channel, tittled "Sink the Bismarck!" or something like that is also very good. They interviewed many, many veterans including one of the three survivours of the HMS Hood and many from the DKM "Bismarck" including Carl's friend, Baron Von Mullenheim-Rechburg.
Unfortunately could not find the site where we discussed earlier the fate of Bismarck; whether it sank due to enemy fire or the crew themselves sank it in the end. Personally I still think the ship was doomed by the enemy fire but it is interesting to know how it sank. On Ballard´s book they tell how they checked the hull and could not find such marks that would explain that the torpedoes or gun fire could have made the Bismarck sink. I guess this means that the final reason for Bismarck´s sinking is the crew who let the water in ?!
