In the army only NCOs and officers are allowed 1 handgun only. We enlisted, unless a very specific group in the Navy, aren't allowed to own handguns. "Permanent enlisted" are fighting at courts for an NCO license for several years. Civilians: Handguns for selfdefense, forget it unless you're a banker or something like that. One of my requests (i was a MP by then) was denied saying "if your life is at risk, that's no reason to own a firearm". Sport shooters, well, it's very expensive in permits and medical certificates (renewed once a year), Shooters Federation, Shooting clubs (not everywhere, but all expensive), etc. Besides most ranges don't allow black powder weapons or rifles (small ones). Possesing hunting weapons (mainly shotguns) is relatively easy, and permits must be renewed every 5 years. Hunting licenses must be renewed once a year. I own as hunting weapons a .30-30 winchester, an M1 Carbine and i am after a Garand. I have too 2 Navy Colt replicas, one longbarrelled with shoulder stock. Hunting with handguns or black powder weapons it's forbidden. On top of this, ammo is fairly expensive, going around 1 euro/shot for rifle ammo, and a little less for pistol ammo.
By US standards it sems both excessive and abusive-and l cmplained when l lived in New Jersey because l had to pay $US45 for a new permit for every additional gun....!!!mmo here is much more reasonable- our friend charges about $US per 100 (reloads-you supply him with spent cases)-yes, l also recall that most of my friends in Spain had a lot of replicas and "Dewats" (De activated War Trophies")-...including a SChmeisser MP 28 /II "Naranjero"
Well, i forgot to mention that semiauto hunting guns must be limited to 3 rounds magazines. Our weapon laws, approved in the 70's, are still stuck in the XIXth century (and the new ones have been paralized for almost 2 years), and if you look at them closely it's easy to see why. For example, pistols are considered more dangerous than rifles (pistols are easy to hide then 2 years prison, only1 for rifles/shotguns), if you put a bayonet in a demilled rifle, it's considered a forbidden weapon (2 years prison usually), if you put a stock on a registered pistol it becomes a forbidden weapon, demilling is not finished until you see holes over half the weapon, etc. But could be worse. :-?
Sounds awfull...Back in 1999, one of my friends, who is Catalan (and notoriously cheap) asked me to bring him reloading equipment-which l did--with a terse message "Ricardo, consider this your birthday gift for the next five years"- Your details of ammo prices in Spain now make me feel a little guilty!! P.S.I only feel a little guilty, he is very cheap
I'm Catalan too, but as for cheap there are many. But with an army salary and paying college i can hardly aford anything. :-?
There are cheap people eveywhere-but Ricardo is renowned among his friends and associates in Barcelona for being cheap..and his mean, stingy ways are well-noted by waiters and bar tenders across Cataluña (or so l am told by other friends..hahahah!) so much so that they made songs and verses about him..and in turn he thinks the rest of us are spend-thrifts...and throw our money away.. Here's one of the more printable verses "Ricardo, Ricardo Ricardo es un chaval muy blason pues no ha pagao una copa desde el tiempo de Colon" " (Translation) Ricardo,Ricardo Ricardo is a very peculiar fellow who has not paid for a drink since the age of Columbus".. :smok: :smok:
All in all the best gun of WW2 is either the Browning Hi power or 45.ACP 1911. I would pick the Hi power. KBO
He does not even flinch!!!! his favorite answer is " I'm not cheap, you guys are extravagant!" and when his notorious tightness is mentioned he merely replies : " To a fly resting on the ceiling the entire world is upside down....." : 8)
At least thats one good thing about his character! He remains civil despite all accusations, and gives his own peice of philosophy meanwhile.
fair play to the dude i would have lost it (anger management). i still like the luger P-08 its such a nice looking gun but the nambu? japanese pistol looks uglier than i do!!!!!!
He's a good fellow-reliable, honest and all that-but he probably has the first coin they ever gave him...and he will argue over pennies...which l consider boorish ..
The allusive songs and poems have been sung and recited in his resenceoften hahaha!-but it was like shooting at a T-34 with ping-pong balls..no effect whatsoever.. "Genio y figura, hasta la sepultura" (Character and kisser until the grave)
They are both essentially the same ( John Browing ) design--the barrel slides vertically to lock the breech. To be honest KBO, l have not made up my min and shoot with both of them (or if l bring the Ballester Molina, with alll three of them)-Accuracy dependes primarily on the fellow that handles the weapon..and there's a former State Trooper that joins us in our Friday night "shoot outs" at the range at least once a month..he manages to group seven shots with his .45 1911A1 at 25 yards in a 2 1/2-3 inch pattern..which l think its excelent.by any standard... Here are some photos of the collection l keep hidden in my vaults.. P.S.: take a peek at the "I dare you topic" for some post-cards l received-three of the same with differet captions...t.. 8)
Well Kellhound you just have be a member of a Gun-club Btw Scaramouche "Nice rack !! " I mean "Gun-rack" KBO
