Idly flicking through the TV guide this morning I saw that the UK History Channel had a programme on secret weapons, which was apparently about 'Exploding camel dung'.

Anybody have any idea what this was about?

Camouflage. What do you expect to see in the desert?
Until the mines are spotted, vehicles will drive over them and get blown up. Once they are spotted, it will slow everyone down as they avoid ANY camel dung just in case.

Was this by any chance Col. (Retd) Dick "I've got a big mustache" Strawbridge in "Crafty Tricks of War" An excellent series.

I have this image of dwarves toiling deep underground searching for the motherlode of dead rats and singing some variation on "Hi Ho, Hi Ho..."

...too much real life...warped mind taking over...reality to standby...

    Rat Mine

I appreciate the Dead Rat Mine thought Tom, has great possibilities!
"Murder in the Rathaus", "Mein Fater was a 'Rattenfanger' by the 'Hamlin Childrens Choir' or to keep the DVT topic....'Warfarin' (Warfare in) the Ratte Minen'!!!!!
Reminds me of just post war in Germany when a young Fraulein told me that in WW2 in England we had Ratzen Katz for eating!!! Finally realised she meant 'Ration Cards'!!

i remeber another wierd weapon used by the soviets. they trained dogs to run under tanks with a bomb on their backs. in battle they did what they were trained to do. they ran under tanks and blew them up, however they blew up the soviet tanks they trained with.

In night torpedo attacks on Axis convoys the British Swordfish aircraft worked in pairs, one to light up the target with flares, the other to launch torpedoes.
In an effort to distract the convoy from the torpedo attack, the aircraft dropping the flares, also threw out empty beer bottles with stones tied to the neck of the bottle. This gave off a sound similar to a bomb falling, hopefully distracting the crews of the ships.
