Trying to get some information on daily life while on occupation duty in Germany after the war. Is there a book, or even a part of a book that might cover the duties and experiences of the guys that were assigned this duty before being shipped home? Thanks

For copies of official reports on this you might look at the Combined Arms Research Library (CARL). Take food and water, and some camping gear.

Buten42, you might try "Savage Continent" by Keith Lowe. It definitely covers your period of interest. It might not cover individual duties as well as you like but it certainly describes the occupation of Europe. The conditions described almost make it difficult to read at times. I read it on Kindle (Amazon) but it in book form as well.
