I have just posted a review of Sönke Neitzel (ed.) Tapping Hitler’s Generals: Transcripts of Secret Conversations, 1942-45 (Frontline Books: Barnsley, 2007) by Professor Harry Bennett of Plymouth University.

    Book Review – Tapping Hitler

    Enjoy.

Sounds like a great book and the review is excellent, Mahross. Thanks for sharing.
One of the most important topics for war historian study. Just what were they (the Wehrmacht Officer Corps) thinking about the "ethnic cleansing" going on in the occupied territories? Hmmmm?
And how did they rationalize it, come to grips with it, so to speak, within the inner recesses of their collective souls?

An excerpt from the excellent review.

A great review. I just read Kershaw's The End and questioned in my own head why the generals didn't overcome Hitler. This book seems to address that shortcoming. Thanks.

Glad you enjoyed the review gents. It does seem to help answer some important questions concerning what they knew.

    More soon.

Another good review. I must admit that I tend to read "popular" books, but it's good to know that some want to delve more deeply. It really does highlight the difference between the popular and the academic.

Yes, I think the best way to think of Morrison is much like Churchill's The Second World War in that they both received help from the organizations they were writing about.

The definition of OH is an interesting one and has service and national variations. For example, Richards and Saunders history of the RAF is not an Official History in the sense used by the British govt. In Britain, OHs are those commissioned by the Cabinet Office, or in the case of the First World War, the Cabinet for Imperial Defence.

We have posted another review. This time of, Robert C. Stern, The US Navy and the War in Europe (Seaforth Publishing: Barnsley, 2012)
