Cutting charges are positioned at angles across the bridge in order to cut girders when exploding. The crater charge prevents the enemy from building a new temporary bridge. The bridge after the demolition with its girders twisted proves an obstacle to enemy engineers. Any attempt by enemy troops to cross the damaged bridge is hampered by anti-personnel mines placed around the crater and by mortars and artillery fire on the side of the bridge.
