    Hi all

During WW2 how many levels of readiness did the British armed forces have, up to being fully alert, ready to respond to armed aggression.

What phrases did they use, was it different between the Royal Navy, RAF and Army?

Prior to the Japanese invasion of Malaya, Brooke-Popham had the Indian III Corps on 24 hours’ notice, to either implement operation Matador or defend the Jitra line. Then just prior to the invasion they were put on ‘short notice’ which I think was six hours. Would this be following any British Army doctrine or just a series of orders written out specifically for this theatre and event?
