British Para Helmet 2nd Patt

G'day All

Here's my second pattern helmet with the third pattern chinstrap
For your reference

 

Very nice, Rene - a very rare and sought-after item ( re-enactors go crazy trying to find them....)

My own is a 3rd Pattern 1944-dated.

 

Cheers Martin, you'll hate me on the price I paid for it - A whopping AU$80 back in 1998

 

...and you'll hate me for what I paid for my 1944 example : £10 in 2001 ( it was lying on the pavement outside a North London junk shop....)

 

Ha funny we both got bargains! may I see your helmet?

The para one was just one of those lucky finds which happen to all collectors from time to time. I'd walked past that shop every week for two years and seen nothing. And then I happened along just as the owner placed the helmet on the pavement. I thought it would be post-war and when I asked how much ? he said 'A Tenner'.

Then I saw the date and felt like a thief as I handed over my ten-pound note.....
