In Britain’s shipyards women and girls were greatly contributing to the high-speed production of merchant vessels. These photos were taken at a Northern yard where women were employed as riveters, welders and painters. Pictures 1 and 2 show Women painters at work on the hatches of partially finished vessels. Picture 3 is showing a girl carrying a plate that marked where the rivets had to go. Picture 4, is showing a 7, 000 ton merchant ship that was completed within three weeks.
