    Browning was a mechanical genius. A lot of his designs are still in use today, including the venerable .45 automatic. It'll be a hundred years old 4 years from now and still growing strong.

    Legend, again, has it that the ammo was specifically designed to persuade a Juramentado (Spanish Juramentar = to take an oath) to go down and stay down. But there were never official records that say so. Although the .45 ball is indeed an acknowledge man-stopper.

    Real users, as opposed to target practice only, still swear by Springfield's no-frills mil-spec...
