    Cheery girls of the land army, whose smiles and spades helped carry Britain through grimly critical times, about to go ditching. They retain their cheerfulness in spite of Mr. Churchill's announcement that our Women's Land Army would not qualify for post-war gratuities.

    Maybe smiling for the camera, but i doubt that they were smiling during working hours. :silly:

    A relation of my Mother (Don't recall if she was my Mothers Aunt?) worked on the land during WW2, i recall my Mother telling us how she ached each week as they were actually expected to do the same work that men would do. :ponder:
