23 January: During the day: 9 Commando encountered elements of Aufkl.Abt. 129 of 29 Pz. Gren.Div. 1st Div (2nd Bde. Grp.) advanced one to two miles inland. Ranger Force advanced north on the Anzio-Carroceto Road. 3rd Div advanced up to four miles inland. Four bridges across the Mussolini Canal in front of the 15th Infantry on the far right were blown. Unloading of 3rd (Br.) Brigade slowed badly by mines and soft sand, shifted to Anzio. 1st Division completed debarkation at Anzio. 504th Parachute Infantry unloaded. 24 January: 0001: All bridges over the main and left branches of the Mussolini Canal were either blown or under control. 3rd Division patrols were in Borgo Piave and Littorio. 15th Infantry had crossed the left branch of the Canal and the Ficoccia River.
