Haven't seen the movie yet, but have seen trailer. It shows him (Oldman) giving his "We will fight on the beaches" speech. I have also heard recordings of the actual speech. From what I can remember the speaking styles are totally different. It also shows the MPs jumping up and down and cheering. Did they really do this or is this another "dramatization" of facts.

Oldman got the Oscar and for once the award went to the right actor. I've seen several men play Churchill and Oldman absolutely nailed him. It was n't just a matter of the speech patterns or mannerisms, either, but the personality. He caught the man's weaknesses as well as his strengths, too. A fine job. I should add that Kristen Scott-Thomas as Clementine and Ben Mendelson as George VI were also excellent.

Watched it today. Mesmerizing. A great film. Oldman was stupendous.

Watched my copy yesterday, very fine performance. History was squeezed a bit to fit into the time allowed, but they still caught the essence of the man, I think. Now for the two videos on Amazon.

I will be looking forward to your review of "Into the Storm." I don't think HBO productions are eligible for the Oscars, but it was a big budget HBO release and (IMHO) Gleeson's Churchill is every bit as good as Oldman's performance.

I agree, though I fall on Oldman's side. That was an excellent portrayal. Brian Cox did an OK job on the sequel, but I found it rather silly at times.
