My paper has reported the recent death of the above officer. As a very effective commander of Royal Navy submarines, he notched up the sinking of much enemy tonnage both German and Japanese. When commanding HMSubmarine "Trenchant", Hezlet laid an ambush for U-859 which was only 60 minutes away from berthing in Penang after a six month voyage from Germany. Is that a bummer, or what ? One hour away from your destination port after a 6 month voyage, only to get torpedoed ! Ten German seamen were taken prisoner, one of which was heard banging on the conning tower hatch when "Trenchant" was diving. She re-surfaced and took on board a very pleased German seaman. He was so grateful that he fixed the boats German designed de-salination plant which had never worked since "Trenchant" had left port.
Funnily enough IIRC so did Marlin, he also used to post on here regarding relevant obituaries. It's such a remarkable coincidence...
Re: BG Fables I surely do, and mainly because the obituaries of any other newspapers are mainly limited to those of social workers, minor politicians, drug addled rock stars and dissipated aristos ! It's gotta be the DT if you (like myself) wish to be reminded of our elders and betters when they depart this miserable Earth !
