Friday night I finished my third CD diorama It is of a US M4A3(76)W Medium Tank with Tank Riding Infantry passing a knocked out German PaK 40 Anti-tank gun. This was the base before painted and textured before I put the models on (sorry I forgot to take more before pictures) The Sherman was from a kit by Italeri, the Pak 40 was Airfix? (I think) and the tank riders were from HäT. Here you can see the damage to the gun shield and the frame of the Pak 40 I painted the ground below it and in front of it a grayish color to try to illustrate the explosion that took the gun out. I also put down burnt grass to try to show that the gun had fired before and seared the ground and vegetation underneath the barrel Sherman crews often added sandbags to the front of their tanks to help increase armor protection, especially from German handheld projectiles like Panzerfäust. Tanks were vulnerable to enemy infantry. American tanks' armor was relatively weak, especially on the sides and rear, so it was vital for them to have their own infantry to engage them before they could employ their anti-armor weapons. In return, the Tanks would knock out machine gun emplacements, bunkers, and enemy tanks that threatened the infantry. I am really happy with how this turned out. Each time I make one my skills only get better. Any comments or suggestions are welcome Here is the one I just finished with the other CD dioramas.
