when I think of the Bulge, Clervaux is the first thing that comes to mind....I will never forget reading, in 1977, John Toland's Battle; the Story of the Bulge and remember how some unit was retreating, near sunset? and they could see the glow of the fires from Clervaux.....for some reason that is what stays with me.....as one of the ''small'' town battles so how can non-Europeans see the movie??
We were running on a very tight budget, at least compared to Hollywood, without the financial help of the Clervaux Municipality, the project could not have been realized. So it was not possible to make a region 1 DVD! Once we will have finished our tour through the Luxembourg movie theaters we will launch the DVD. For our friends from the US of A we will sell the documentary as a "video on demand" download, should be end of January, beginning of February 2016. We will keep our website updated and once the DVD has been launched we will put a link to the download page on www.alamo-film.lu
It dates back to the time when Luxembourg City was a "Bundesfestung" with a Prussian garrison! It somehow stuck. But nowadays it's vanishing, you only use it when you are in between good friends...its very much not political correct!
roger that Skyline...and great point Skipper...those ''small'' anecdotes very interesting.....helps bring some of the war ''closer''
The hatred for the Germans was very strong in Luxembourg, as the Germans not only had occupied it, but wanted to get us "Heim ins Reich", back into the "Reich". In fact it was a slow, piecemeal annexation! In the documentary this is also touched in interviews with people who lived through it.
Our teaser on YouTube had already more then 1K views! Thanks a lot to all of you and stay tuned for more news!
The Trailer of our documentary is now online! Please be aware that the final version of the movie will have English and French Subtitles! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMW5zAQppPU&feature=youtu.be We would be very grateful if would share our page if you are on Facebook! Thanks for your help!
can you explain the ad? I like the scope on the castle...very well done..so it's an WW2 era picture of a sniper with modern Clervaux, then the scoped era pic of the castle?
The Castle was still holding out for a night an a day when the rest of Clervaux was already in German hands! Alamo in Clervaux! The destroyed castle in the scope inside the picture of today's Clervaux symbolizes the look back into our past!
