Sorry, Joe, but I recall a 13 year old member who recently joined.

So both Joe and J.A. were born after Nirvana released Nevermind. I was born the year The Beatles released Revolver. I feel really old!

Late boomer. Too young for the first GI Bill, too old for the second. Deprived of VFW membership because I didn't serve in a "declared war", although I've been shot at across the pond. Only qualified for the American Legion, but quickly tired of their lockstep with one political party.

During the 20th Party Congress in February, Khrushchev reveals the extent of Stalin's atrocities and denounces the 'cult of personality'. But the USSR continues to maintain strict control over Eastern Europe. Signs of rebellion, such as the anti-regime riots in Poland in June or the more serious uprising in Hungary in October, are quickly suppressed by Soviet troops.

Following the nationalisation of the Suez Canal in July by President Nasser of Egypt, Britain and France intervene militarily, an action that is vigorously opposed by the United States.

Now you guess the year ;)

I first saw the light of day in August 1923.

    Funny....... I don't feel a day older than 84 !

I love coming to this forum for the wide range of ages...Fifteen, eighty-five...

Myself, I was born in the 1980s, 1987, specifically. So I am 21 years old. Everyone says I ought to have been born in 1887 instead, though...I'm terribly old-fashioned. My first knowledge of WWII was what my grandmother (born May, 1914) and uncle (born 1935) told me.

The year I was born..... aged like a fine old wine (cough, cough)

Interesting however how some things come back around in the news!

Americas first satellite was launched from Cape Canaveral. This is also the year that the Microchip first developed which is the very early stages of PC's we all now use at work and at home. I was born the year that JFK was assassinated. My early years were dominated by the Vietnam War.

It's odd, my wife is a year younger than me but she has no recollection of the war, none. She was 11 when the NVA crashed through the gates in Saigon, but it just as well happen in 1875 as far as it affected her.

for this time-frame. To give a hint, the year I was born, the Soviets exploded Joe One their first atomic, Mao announced the formation of Red China (Oct. 1st), and about a week before my birth the Berlin Airlift ended officially (Sept. 30th).

In 1949, two of the songs which made the top spot are songs which I still enjoy to this day, one by Frankie Lane (Mule Train), and one by Vaughn Monroe (Ghost Riders in the Sky). The others not so much, except maybe All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.

Three days before my eighth birthday, Sputnik was launched in 1957 (my birthday 7th, launched on 4th), and if that wasn’t weird enough, just as I celebrated my first teen-age birthday in '62, the October Cuban Missile crisis appeared. I seriously wondered if I would really see my fourteenth.

I am definitely a "Cold War" survivor, since it may have sort-a started just before I was born.
