    Good afternoon,

I have just joined the Forum and I wondered if someone could kindly help with a question about my deactivated 1944 Enfield Revolver No 2 Mk 1**. In Ian Hogg's 'Pistols of the World' he states that after the war Mk1** revolvers were converted back to Mk 1* with a safety stop retro fitted. In this true of all Mk1**s and is there a way I can easily check if mine was modified without taking the side plate off?

    Thank you for your help

Any time a pistol was modified, a small stamp was punched into the pistol at the armory. These codes and symbols changed over the years, but if you take careful macro pix of each mark you can find websites that have each of these stamps decoded. You can crush chalk over the marks and then wipe off the excess on the frame to make them stand out better. I don't follow the later WWII British revolvers, but I have great fondness for the earlier .455 Webleys. The earlier revolvers are very fine handguns, the later ones less so, but still a robust and effective weapon.
