One Google search would have allowed you to see this :

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10/24/spanish_enigmas/

There were 26 discovered in 2008.

very interesting with a lot of great information....excellent input Skipper and good memory.......I'm very surprised they would have that many, if any at all!!....26 seems like a lot of Enigmas......even it it was used at Corps level, how many could've survived and/or not be with some collector??
This was the latest ''computer'' technology back then.....I'm surprised they weren't more tightfisted with this new and important machine...... but still, they weren't given out like medals.......so, very, very rare....

Poppy, if you happen to find one, I suggest listing it on Ebay.

Happy birthday to both of you and many happy returns. Some one hurry and buy it, maybe we could pass it around like the Stanley Cup. Trust me (?) it could work. Cheers.

Here's an interesting video explaining how Enigma works.

    Thanks for the birthday greetings.

YugoslavPartisan - thank you for that video. That was very interesting. And now I'll know how to use the machine when I get it.

rkline56, great idea about sharing it. Since Lou is making payments, and I am going to pick it up to save shipping and handling fees, I'll take my turn first and then I'll send out a message to the next person when it is their turn. Apparently there are only 158,962,555,217,826,360,000 combinations for that person to try to decipher to find out when and where to meet me to pick it up, so this should be a snap.

With that number of possibilities, I should be done with it by Wednesday. Thursday if I get interrupted. Let me know when you're done with it, Clem. My first check payment is in the mail.

I've already made my wish. I keep checking the door, but so far the $10,000,000 hasn't shown up.

An empty box is currently for sale on Ebay.de at 680€. It almost seems like a bargain for a few pieces of wood and some paint.

I used to work in designing crypto software for Siemens, immagine my reaction the first time I saw a couple of Enigma (at the Munich museum) with the company's logo well visible, I had never made the connection before though it was pretty obvious. Enigma is pretty trivial compared to what you an do with software today, but it's a beautiful piece of precision engineering.
