These are rare historical items. Some of them seem to be ground finds. Are these relics from the Kurland Pocket? ThaNk you for posting these. Did you find out any of the personnal stories that are behind these tags?

All thiese tags come from todays terrain of Poland. Unfortunetlly "council" called WASt ( http://www.dd-wast.de ) which was providing information about owners has stopped to do that, so I won't be able to get thiese details from them.

For eg. This ID tag was made in 1940.

    Short history of unit:

In 1939 unit was called SS-VT-Ers-Sturmbann "Deutschland", then in 1940 SS-Ers. Btl. "Deutschland" after that 1941/42 - SS Inf. Ers. Btl. "Deutschland" and last rename was in 1943/45 - SS-Pz. Gren. Ausb. u. Ers. Btl. 2. Unit was supplying in people 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich".

However it was found in fields of City Gdańsk (ger.: Danzig) in North Poland near positions of 4th SS Polizei Division so prodably owner get order to join this unit. As You know 4th SS Polizei Division was fighting in Gdańsk in spring 1945! So owner prodably was carrying this ID tag per 5 years of war! Amazing!

This is a nice collection. So they are form Poland, they could have been from the Weischel defense line , one of the latest barriers before the Russians crossed the Oder and got to Berlin. The Rad one are nice too because they are linked together. I suspect these were found at the same place.

I like this one. It come from huge collection from Czech Republic, and it shows very early stamping on SS Replacemetn Batalion "Germania". Right now I am owner of it:

Good for you, these are rare items. The survivors had a tendency to throw them away in 1945 because it was not good to be caught with one of these. As a result they are becoming rare collectables. I am talking on historic grounds only here.

Sorry to rain on your parade here even though you have some good historical items. I have never been able to justify owning anything that is taken from a soldiers grave.

    No offence meant.

    Best regards and cheers.

Excuse me!! Any id tag from my collection dosen't come from grave! I see that You are deep in stereotype which suggest that every ID tag from East come from grave. You are wrong!

Good to hear that. At least the double ones one can be certain.
According to the condition they look like metal detector finds .If they are bought from someone else one can't be certain , but that's the same with any other metal parts like buttons , coins buckles.
